Peasedown Youth Hub

A range of activities – designed by young people for young people – will be on offer at Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Peasedown Youth Hub this autumn.

The new programme starts on 1 September with a weekly keep fit Thursday session, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and street dance sessions with a dance teacher from 8pm to 9pm. All sessions cost 50p and are open to all young people in school year seven and above.

The first trip of the autumn term is to Motion Skate Park in Bristol on Monday 5 September. The trip costs £6, with transport and admission to the park included, but places are limited and should be booked via the youth worker Bridie Marshall on 01761 432294.

Young people from Peasedown Youth Hub are busy planning activities for October half term week and have already organised a Christmas shopping trip to Cardiff on Sunday 11 December (costing £7.50 for the coach) as well as staging a Christmas lunch and show for older people on Friday 16 December.

Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib-Dem, Peasedown), Deputy Leader of Council and Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “We’re very pleased that Bath & North East Somerset Council’s youth hub in Peasedown is improving the life chances of young people by getting them involved in their local community.

“Not only are they having a say in what they want to do among their own age group but they’re also having a positive influence on other members of society and their efforts should be commended.”

In addition to the Thursday night fitness sessions, Peasedown Youth Hub is open on Mondays and Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and on Tuesdays for small group work from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The staff also run a regular session at Peasedown Community Farm on Saturdays between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Young people can help to clean out all of the animals, spend time repairing fences, creating the garden area, work on building projects and assist with anything that needs doing depending on the weather and time of year.

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Youth Service focuses on providing support for young people with everyday problems. Staff offer one-to-one appointments for young people who need additional support which could also include help with job hunting, creating a CV or information and advice on a wide range of issues such as contraception, health, money or drugs.
